NAIROBI

NAIROBI – SOUTH C

St. Anthony of Padua Friary in Nairobi is situated in the area of South C, right behind Five Star Estate, between Lang’ata and Mombasa roads and two airports: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Wilson Airport.

We have been invited to South C in 2003 by then Archbishop of Nairobi Raphael Ndingi Mwana a’ Nzeki, when the new parish of St. Catherine of Alexandria was established (before it was an outstation of South B parish). At the beginning running of the parish was difficult, because the community was not established and friars had to travel every day from Lang’ata friar.

In 2006 the house for the friars was completed so the community was established immediately. The same year on Christmas Eve the new house was blessed by Archbishop Ndingi and canonically erected by Franciscan major superior Fr. Tadeusz Brzozowski, the Provincial Custos. Apart from the friary, the house pays a role of the headquarters for the Franciscans in Kenya (Custodial Office).

Parish is build from 16 Small Christian Communities and many activity groups like: Catholic Women Association, Catholic Men Association, Couples for Christ, Charismatic Renewal, various youth groups, altar servants, liturgical dancers, choir, etc. Currently for the Eucharist and other services parish uses a hall that was build before the parish was established, so the main aim for the future is to construct new beautiful church.
